CUBA – Cuba says its military is preparing for the possibility of aggression from the United States, as tensions between the two countries continue to escalate. Cuba’s Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernández De Cossío told NBC’s Meet The Press it would be “naive” to ignore the risk of conflict, though he said the government hopes such a scenario does not happen. The warning comes after Washington moved to block oil shipments to the island, worsening a fuel crisis that has contributed to multiple nationwide blackouts leaving more than 10 million people without power this month. Tensions also rose following the U.S. capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, a key ally of Havana and warnings from U.S. officials that similar action could be taken against Cuba. Meanwhile, Donald Trump said he believes he could “take” Cuba in some form, as the island continues to struggle with repeated power grid failures linked to the ongoing energy shortage.
