The party ratified the final two candidates on Wednesday night, and mong them was the party’s leader. Our Joshua Williams was at party’s Mackey Street headquarters Wednesday night. Excitement filled the air at the FNM’s headquarters on Mackey Street. The party’s torch bearer for the MICAL seat, which includes Mayaugana, Inagua, Acklins, Crooked Island, and Long Cay, is retired Superintendent of Police, James Leo Ferguson. It’s the seat that his father also ran for in the 2002 general election and a legacy he hopes to continue. Ferguson is the son of the late former FNM Chairman and Senator, Johnlee Ferguson. He retired from the Royal Bahamas Police Force on Wednesday after 30 years of service, and formally transitioned into frontline politics, accepting a nomination from the FNM as its candidate. A native of Mayaguna, Ferguson said he’s ready to address key issues affecting that constituency. Leo Ferguson – FNM Candidate, MICAL “Young persons do not get opportunities. We need our young people to get opportunities to stay in the island. The population is dying. So we want persons who are, the elderly taken care of persons who are my age could actually sustain a family and stay in MICAL. We want the MICAL community to grow. The thing for me is this MICAL use to be a leader in this country. Long Cay use to be the capital but now we have 2 persons on long cay. So my entire thing about going back to MICAL is let’s go back to our roots, MICAL will lead this country in the next couple of years. “ He said the process took so long, because he wanted to retire from the police force he described as, “the right way”. The seat, currently held by member of parliament basil mcintosh... Leo Ferguson – FNM Candidate, MICAL “The reality is Mr.McIntosh is God bless him, it’s a new era today. “ Also ratified was party leader, Michael Pintard. Michael Pintard – Leader, Free National Movement “I wanted to make sure that every single one of our soldiers was safely delivered over the finish line so now that Leo has finally been ratified it was my time” Michael Pintard – Leader, Free National Movement “You will hear more about our platform as a party so the question is what will be done under a Pintard administration we’re gonna answer that question to a logic on Saturday and on the weeks that follow so it’s not your deal but you’re gonna hear more.
