Nearly 150 runners and walkers took part in “Miles for Smiles”, a fundraising event to benefit the 26 children currently residing at the Grand Bahama Children’s Home. Participants had the option of a 1 mile race perfect for children or pets or even more challenging 5k and 10k events. Chair of the home’s fundraising committee, Fatima-Zahra Kaboub, was pleased with the turnout. While the home receives subsidies from the Grand Bahama Port Authority, the government, and other stakeholders, Kaboub said that it’s still not enough to cover the nearly 400 thousand dollars needed to operate the home on an annual basis. She added that the children are always in need so love, time, and attention.. If you missed this event, the home has several ways you can help make a donation like online, at their office, or by supporting any of their upcoming initiatives.
