GUATEMALA – Guatemala’s president is pushing for a temporary fuel subsidy as rising global tensions between Israel, the United States, and Iran drive up energy prices. President Bernardo Arévalo says his government has introduced several bills in congress, including one aimed at lowering the cost of diesel, according to EFE News. He warns higher diesel prices could trigger a wider spike in the cost of food, public transportation, and other essential goods, since much of the country’s distribution network relies on diesel-powered vehicles. The proposals are now before lawmakers as government seeks quick action to ease pressure on households and businesses.
