The Florida Gators senior sprinter finished second in the 200m in 20.17 seconds. He set a new Bahamian national record, a Gators program record, third fastest in the NCAA this season, and 12th fastest in the NCAA all-time. McCoy was also a member of the 4x400m relay team that finished fifth in 3:04.04 seconds. Fellow Gator Quincy Penn was on the women’s 4×400 meter relay team, which finished 10th in 3:37.76 seconds. Tennessee volunteers’ Javonya Valcourt finished 15th in the 400m in 52.35 seconds. Kansas State freshman Alan Hanna finished 15th in the high jump with a clearance of 2.10 meters. In the 60m hurdles, Texas Tech Red Rainders’ Antoine Andrews was unable to finish his preliminary race after pulling up following the second hurdle. Bahamian Coaches Highlight “Selection Sunday” The run in the NCAA tournament begins for Bahamians this week. On the women’s side, Yolett McPhee-McCuin leads Ole Miss into the tournament as the No. 5 seed in the Sacramento Region 2. Team 51 will open their campaign against the No. 12 seed Gonzaga Bulldogs on Friday at 3:30 p.m. This marks the fifth straight NCAA tournament appearance for Mcphee-McCuin in Oxford, and she has already guided the program to two sweet 16 appearances. On the men’s side, Bahamian coaching experience will also feature Kentucky Wildcats Assistant Coach Mikhail McLean, and Graduate Assistant, Willis Mackey Jr. Kentucky earned the no. 7 seed in the midwest region, and will face the no. 10 seed Santa Clara Broncos Friday at 12:15 p.m. Meanwhile, just one player in this year’s field – Paul Greene and the UMBC retrievers enter the field as a no. 16 seed in the midwest region. UMBC will face the Howard Bison in a “first four” play-in game on Tuesday at 6:40 p.m., with the winner advancing to face the top-seeded Michigan Wolverines in the first round. In Greene’s first year with the program, UMBC earned an automatic bid to the tournament after winning the America East Championship. Bahamian Trio Headed to the NIT Bahamians are also headed to the National Invitational Tournament (NIT). Deyton Albury and his New Mexico Lobos earned a no. 1 seed in the Albuquerque region, and will host the Sam Houston Bearkats in the first round Wednesday night at 8 p.m., streamed on ESPN Plus. Romad Dean and the Tulsa Golden Hurricane are the no.1 seed in the Tulsa region, and will host the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks Tuesday night at 8 p.m. on ESPNU. Meanwhile, Fredrick King and the Murray State Racers will open their NIT run as the no.7 seed against the second seeded Nevada Wolf Pack, Wednesday night at 10 p.m. In the Women’s NIT, the 48-team field features several Bahamians. Conference-USA player of the year Rhema Collins, Denika Lightbourne and the FIU Panthers received an automatic bid. Both Antonicia Moultrie of the Ohio Bobcats and Adena Webster of the Monmouth Hawks saw their teams receive at large bids. Veronaye Charlton is sidelined with an injury, but her Austin Peay Governors will also be in the field. The opening round will be hosted March 19-21.
