NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Court of Appeal has ruled in favor of a man who was jailed for five years for possession of a prohibited weapon and ordered his released from prison. Antwan Adderley was on bail for a double murder when police arrested him on firearm charges on June 11, 2023. At around 11pm on the day in question, police on patrol in the Palm Beach Street area saw a car speeding with no lights on. During the pursuit, police saw the driver’s door open and man threw a mask and black object from the vehicle. The car eventually crashed into a fence. The driver ran from the car and escaped. Police recovered a .40 Austria glock with 15 rounds of ammunition. ASP Alex Pierre testified that the man was Adderley. However, during the appeal it emerged that Pierre only saw the fleeing suspect for three seconds. As a result, the conviction was deemed unsafe and his appeal was allowed. Adderley is awaiting trial for the murders of Ingramson Toussaint and Gordon McKenzie on February 14, 2023.
