Venezuelan Workers Protest Over Wages

2026-03-26 - 00:01

VENEZUELA – Hundreds of workers and pensioners took to the streets in Caracas, demanding higher wages and retirement payments after four years without an increase. Protesters say Venezuela’s minimum wage is now worth just cents per month, after years of hyperinflation that has eroded purchasing power according to AFP. Unions are calling for a new minimum wage of at least $200, saying government bonus programs still fall far short of what families need to buy basic food. Police and pro-government supporters blocked the march near the labor ministry as officials say any pay increase will depend on oil revenue and relief from international sanctions.
